  1. HEALTH
I have to talk a little bit about politics in reference to health because these days they go hand in hand. If Obama’s health care program is overturned by the Congress, a lot of people will not be covered—especially students, the elderly and those on Medicaid. I don’t want you to wake up one morning and say you didn’t see this coming and you did nothing about it.
In the mean time it is important for you to know how to keep yourself and your children as healthy as possible. It is becoming more and more difficult to eat healthy because a lot of our food is contaminated. When I was a kid our fruit and vegetables were always fresh because they came from American farms. That’s not true anymore, and the long trip from different countries to our table has consequences. We see commercials on TV telling us to use products that are breaking down our immune system, like corn sugar which is not good for the body.
Unless we take part in making sure we have honest food regulations, clean air and clean water, we will see more cancer and new illnesses. When I support Cancer research, I get frustrated because we will never cure cancer unless we clean up the environment.
It is important for us to cook for our children and to look at food labels before we buy what we are putting in our children’s stomachs; especially in low income communities where corporations dump what they can’t sell to upper class areas. There are times when we have to eat cheap or not at all. But we should try to stay away from fast food places that sell contaminated chicken and beef in mass doses.
In the winter frozen veggies and fruit is the safest way to go. In the summer you should look for local food markets that sell straight from local farms. The veggies and fruit are fresh and last for more than a week when refrigerated. A lot of our water systems are being contaminated because of what’s being done to the earth. If you can buy a filter for your kitchen and bathroom facet it would be a good idea. If not, boiling your water and putting it in the fridge is helpful. Bottled water is getting expensive. Please try to buy milk from cows that are free range, also please stay away from products that have arsenic in it—like apple juice. Soda is also a bad idea when serving it every day. I know I may sound intense, but I have to share what I know.

For my vegetarian friends: Please be careful when you buy soy products and sweet corn made from genetically modified seeds. The plants are hybrids and grow deformed and kill the soil while contaminating water systems and depleting your immune system. You can go on line and watch a documentary on a company called, Monsanto, or pull up the information on line. While you’re at it pull up “Food Inc” and see how much cancer you’re buying at the local supermarket.
A lot of people are becoming addicted to over the counter and pharmaceutical drugs that have side effects with life or death consequences. Please look at the side effects before making a decision as to what you’re putting in your body.
Young girls are buying “strokes” in favor of one year periods. Please stop trying to stop your body from functioning the way it was meant to. Is a one year period worth putting your life in danger? Don’t listen to those who say, “It’s one in a hundred girls who may have a stroke.” What if you’re the one? Everyone is trying to sell you something no matter what the consequences. All they want to do is make money. If they’d spend as much money on safety as they do on commercials we’d all be better off.
Stop listening to media sound bites and commercials that encourage you to put yourself in life or death situations unnecessarily. Research your temptations when trying to make the right decision on any subject. These Talk/Variety/News shows are sponsored and the host is doing as they’re told or giving a personal opinion. I was watching a mainstream media talk show and the women were talking about regular salt verses sea salt. I was surprised when they were comparing taste and concluded the taste was the same. I thought to myself, “How stupid can they be?” It’s not the taste that’s important; it’s the amount of sodium. They didn’t even research the story. Sea salt has less sodium than regular salt.
Some health problems can be reversed through proper diet, a small amount of exercise and taking the time to research what the side effects are to the medications we’re taking. Being informed can lead to a healthier life now and in the future.
    Let’s talk about it!
